The Portuguese footwear industry exports over 95% of its production to 152 countries worldwide and is strongly committed to strengthen the investment on overseas markets. To this end, APICCAPS just signed a clusters’ fee agreement with Emirates Airlines.
Within the scope of the agreement, the footwear companies will benefit from more favorable fees on Emirates Airlines’ flights. The discount is calculated upon the value of the published reference fare and consists of a fixed percentage. Destinations such as Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, Jeddah, Medina and Sana are excluded from this deal.
The agreement is already in force and has the limit date by 30 April 2017 with the possibility of prorogation by agreement between the parties.
Note that the footwear exports increased 3,2% % in the first four months of this year. If these results are confirmed by the end of the year, it will be seventh consecutive year of the sector’s growth on overseas markets. Portugal has exported 700 million more pairs of shoes per year since 2010. The industry’s exports already ascend to 2300 million euros a year.
