One of Minde’s activities is the treatment and tanning of leather. It is shaved, tanned, stretched, and dried to be used for different purposes.

It’s used to make furniture, for upholstery, to make bags, but footwear is its main use. Suede is a polysemic term. On the one hand, according to the vocabulary of the portuguese modern era, mit may be the skin of a type of goat which is the chamois goat, with its specific features.

The vocabulary of the late 18th century assumes that suede could be the skin of another animal finished with the same texture, and the same refinement as chamois. On the other hand, this term also refers to the internal side of the skin of different animals, the part that is in direct contact with the animal’s flesh and it was much more fragile for that reason.
