It is one of the most anticipated returns. After a year without in-person editions, the attention of the footwear industry is again focused on MICAM, in Milan.
In September, the Italian city becomes, once more, the epicentre of the footwear industry. From 19th to 21st of September, after a one-year interruption, Fiera Milano welcomes back the one considered the largest footwear fair in the world.
The Portuguese delegation at MICAM counts with the participation of 34 companies, in a long-awaited return. "MICAM is the main fair of the sector, and it is very relevant for the national companies, as it assembles the biggest players in the sector worldwide”, says Luís Onofre. For the President of APICCAPS, the Portuguese attendance at the fair "is of utmost importance for resuming business”.
Hall 6 reopens
The opening of Hall 6 is good news for this edition. The increase in number of entries has made the organization of the largest footwear fair in the world decide to open Hall 6, in addition to the initially planed Halls 1 and 4. It is relevant news given the number of national companies that usually exhibit in this pavilion.
"We can finally return to our traditional format. Our companies need to meet the players of the industry in person to re-establish relationships. We have worked tirelessly to ensure all the tools required for the relaunch of the industry”, says Siro Badon, Head of MICAM.
#RestartTogether events include the DaTE fair, specialized in sunglasses, HOMI Fashion&Jewels Exhibition, dedicated to the jewellery sector, MICAM, Mipel, focused on the leather goods sector, THEONEMILANO, devoted to women’s clothing, and, lastly, Lineapelle.
Novelties at MICAM
The September edition brings a good deal of news. As the companies present their collections for the spring/summer of 2022, the Emerging Designers project will welcome 12 international youngsters.
Besides, two new spaces are expected, the MICAM START-UP BOOT CAMP and the ITALIAN ARTISAN HEROES. The first will introduce the main start-ups of the sector, with greater creative capacity. The second, on the other hand, will be dedicated to the artisans, presenting the best Italian manufacturers companies to other brands.
Crystal slipper
Dreams and hope are the theme of this edition. "At a time when there is an overwhelming desire to start over and dream, we chose one of the most famous fairy tales in the world for the message of hope it contains”, explains Siro Badon.
The fair’s communication campaign, inspired by the fairy tales, selected, for this edition, the iconic "crystal slipper” as the protagonist. It will accompany the following three editions of the largest footwear fair in the world.
Lineapelle under Imagination & Re-Wonder
From 22nd to 24th of September, with close dates to the MICAM edition, Fiera Milano hosts Lineapelle, the footwear components fair. Imagination & Re-Wonder (to find wonder again) sets the tone for the presentation of the trends of winter 2022/2023.
So far, more than 600 exhibitors from 18 countries have been registered, a number deemed by the organization as a sign of hope for the return of in-person events. The Portuguese delegation at the event will include around two dozen companies from the footwear and tannery components sector (with the support of APIC).
