News Portuguese footwear seeks to return to international markets
The Portuguese footwear and leather goods cluster, which exports more than 95% of its production to 172 countries in five continents, is looking to return, step by step, to international markets. The sector has already taken part in 10 promotional initiatives abroad since the beginning of the year.

"After a 2022 of strong consolidation in foreign markets, 2023 will be a year of many challenges, with a general economic slowdown”, says Paulo Gonçalves. According to the spokesperson of APICCAPS, "the footwear and leather goods cluster is seeking to steadily return to international markets”. "The last fairs have already given us hints that we are close to pre-pandemic levels, so, in the coming months, it can be expected a reinforcement of the promotional activity of the sector in foreign markets”.

Now back in Milan, in one week, 70 companies will participate in the three leading fairs dedicated to the footwear and leather goods sector.
The Portuguese delegation at MICAM, the main professional trade fair, will consist of 33 companies. In MIPEL, the sector will be represented by one exhibitor. Finally, in Lineapelle, between companies of leather footwear components, the national delegation will be assured by 33 companies.

Footwear diversifies investments
The footwear and leather goods cluster carries on with its strategy of diversification of investments. After last year’s participation of 70 companies in the project "Supply Enhancement", which entailed a total investment of up close to 3 million euros, it is expected a similar investment by several companies in the promotion of brands in international markets, particularly in the areas of Communication and Advertising consultancy, Adhesion to Online Platforms, Digital Marketing or Production of photographic and multimedia content. Investments in the Registration of Brands and Models and Websites and Online Stores are still underway.
